Tags
- Use the tag function. Always tag your threads with the with the puppet involved. CHECK THE TAG LIST. Do not have six tags for your puppet. Example: Layali or Ali or Layali Sha'hid. In this case, the only one that should be there is 'Layali Sha'hid' -- the full name the puppet. If the thread is one of mature content (explicit sex or violence), use the 'mature content' tag already in the list.
- Special plot tags: There are special tags already in place in the tag list. These are specifically geared for you to invite plot into your thread. They all begins with 'NPC:'. The tags are:
npc:let's do the time warp (to invite a timeslip into the future or past at the moderators' discretion)
npc:something wicked this way comes (to invite ghostly activity)
npc:that old black magic (to invite general occult strangeness)
Timing/General Posting
- When you post into the community, please include the following before the body of your post:
<b>Where:</b> (Where in the hotel or grounds the post takes place)
<b>When:</b> (Approximate time of day the post is occurring)
<b>Type:</b> (Whether the post is "Open to Anyone", "Locked to [Character Name(s)]", or "Closed")
<b>Warnings:</b> (Warn for triggery content, violence, or sex, and yes, edit your post if the threads below contain it) - Try not to put your puppet in two locations at the same time. For example, do not have your puppet entrance post at 5:00pm and then tag into a post at the pool at 5:10pm. However, if you entrance post your puppet at 5:00pm and then tag into a dinner thread at 6:00pm, it is acceptable. It makes sense that your puppet could be at the dinner at 6:00pm. It is not against the rules to screw with time for your puppet so they can be in two places at the same time, we just ask that such occurances be minimized.
- In bartending and activity threads, threadhopping is encouraged. (For those new to LJ RPGs, threadhopping means that not only can you tag the main post to start a thread, but you can also tag an existing thread to talk to someone else present at the bar/activity.) These types of posts will be tagged appropriately.
- Always write in third-person present tense, narrative style.
- All posts will be made in the community. This is where the 'Type' heading in your post comes in. An "Open to Anyone" post is just that: anyone can tag the post and thread with your puppet. A "Locked to [Character Name(s)]" post means only those characters listed may tag the post, usually because it's been pre-agreed on between the players and they have something specific they are trying to do. A "Closed" post may not be tagged by anyone; it is simply a character narrative that may be internal monologues, journal entries, interactions with NPCs, or anything that does not involve another player.
- We do ask you to utilize the lj-cut tag if your entrance post contains content of a mature nature or is excessively long. If you have to ask 'Is this excessively long?', then it's a good bet it is.
Plotting
- We encourage player-plot. Work amongst yourselves and create plot. This is a large setting with many possibilities. All we ask is that you give one of the mods a heads up.
- Tag all your plot posts. 'Plot:whateveristhename' is what we are asking for.
- Make plot summary posts in the main community if you have a long plot with many posts. These summaries need to include all relevent links and a general summary so new and existing players can keep track of everything. Use the 'plot summary' tag when making these posts.
- The ground on which the hotel sits is highly volatile paranormally. As such, weird shit happens. Often. It runs the gamut from fairly innocuous (getting random shivers when passing by a certain room) to relatively creepy (your character turns on the faucet in their bathroom and the water briefly is blood) to the truly distressing (bloody corpses and temporal displacement). You can use the special plot tags to actively have your character(s) accosted by the hotel, but not using the tags doesn't mean -- at the moderators' discretion -- that things won't happen them anyway. This is a horror RPG. You can't avoid the horror by simply not asking for it.
- Monthly, there will be a post where the hotel is actively awake, where the ghosts walk and no place is safe. We do ask that all characters tag into that post, even for just a brief encounter (you may specify in the tag whether you need it to be brief or not).
- Be advised, characters may leave the hotel itself, but if they try to leave the grounds themselves, they will only wind up re-entering on the opposite side. Once a character has checked in, they cannot check out. The hotel won't let them go. There may be future plots where exits open, but they won't stay open long or happen frequently.
- The hotel does allow pets, and so long as it doesn't get out of hand, we'll hold to that. Don't go nuts and try and bring in a dozen cats or something. And don't bring a pet just for the novelty of it if it's not really IC for your pup to do so.
Outside the Hotel
- If you are having any kind of trouble, or have requested an NPC tag, you can ping one of the mods on AIM: sirfritzbamwalla, peachesandjasmin, or email forsythe.mods @ gmail.com.
- If you would like your puppet to take a job at Forsythe, ping one of the mods or email forsythe.mods @ gmail.com and set up a thread where they can apply and be interviewed for the position.
- There will be mod-run plots that all hotel pups are required to participate in. While we encourage player-plot, we also plan to have mod-structured plots from time to time.
- If you have a problem with another player OCCly, or with how their puppet interacted with your puppet ICly, try to speak to that player first to work out the problem. If that doesn't work, ping or email forsythe.mods @ gmail.com and we'll look into it. We're here to help and make this a fun enviroment to play in.
You must include the following sentence at the end of your application to show you have read this FAQ: No one's lasted more than an hour in room 1408.
