Beta: Half Elf Lost
1: season's greetings
December 1st
Elrond was hunched over the desk in the rooms he shared with Erestor, ignoring the pain in his hand. He signed his name in a flourish; the signature was not as smooth and beautiful as when he began, but he no longer cared. He folded the parchment and slipped it into an envelope already addressed with the intended's name. Elrond silently thanked the Valar for blessing his life with Erestor, since the Elf had warned Elrond last month to address the envelopes and not wait until he was writing the letters.
As he began the next greeting, glancing briefly at the list beside his hand, Erestor walked into the room. He was a vision in crimson and darkness, his skin so much paler with his black hair and blood-red sleeping robe. He walked to Elrond's side, a small smile playing on his lips, and he bent over the desk to look at the names on the list. Some were already crossed out, but Elrond winced at the number of families he still needed to send a greeting.
"Elrond?" Erestor asked, but the edge to his voice was more amusement than true inquisitiveness.
"Yes?" he ventured.
The smile on Erestor's lips grew to a smirk. "Do you even know half these people?"
"I know of them, Erestor. That is all an Elf-lord must know in order to send proper greetings each season." Elrond folded the next paper and ignored Erestor as he sealed the envelope.
"But, Elrond... Arnaur and his family left for Aman three years ago. Nimneril died in an Orc raid last year -- Elrond, many of those on this list are either dead or no longer where couriers can reach them! Do you ever check this list?" Erestor's hands were on his hips as he glared down at Elrond.
Elrond glanced from Erestor to the list and back again. A smile broke out on his face and he tossed the quill aside. "That is it. I am not sending them this year!"
